Privacy Policy
Who we are
[Bot Name] ("the Bot," "we," "us") is a Discord bot operated by [Your Name / Organization Name] for use in [Discord server name or "private Discord servers"]. You can contact us at [your contact email].
What information the Bot processes
When a user @mentions the Bot in a Discord channel, the Bot:
Reads the content of that message.
Reads a limited number of recent messages in the same channel (currently up to [50]) to provide conversational context.
Sends this message content, along with the author's Discord username, to Anthropic's Claude API (operated by Anthropic, PBC) to generate a response.
Posts Claude's generated response back into the same Discord channel.
The Bot does not:
Read or process messages in channels it has not been added to.
Read or respond to messages unless it is directly @mentioned.
Collect or store personal information beyond what is visible in the Discord messages it processes (e.g. Discord username, message content, timestamps).
How information is used
Message content is used solely to generate a relevant response via the Claude API at the time of the request. [If you add persistent storage, logging, or analytics later, describe what is stored, for how long, and why, here.]
As currently configured, the Bot does not retain a permanent record of conversations after processing — each response is generated fresh from recent channel history at the time of the @mention. [Update this section if you add a database, logging, or memory feature.]
Third-party processing
Message content sent to Claude is processed by Anthropic, PBC in accordance with Anthropic's own privacy policy and commercial terms, available at https://www.anthropic.com/legal/privacy and https://www.anthropic.com/legal/commercial-terms. We do not control how Anthropic processes data beyond the scope of a standard API request, and we encourage you to review Anthropic's policies directly.
We do not sell, rent, or share message data with any other third party.
Data retention
[Describe your actual retention practice. Example if you keep no logs:] We do not maintain server-side logs of message content beyond what is necessary to process a single request and return a response. [Example if you do keep logs for debugging:] We may retain error logs for up to [30 days] for debugging purposes; these logs may include limited message content.
Children's privacy
The Bot is not directed at children under 13 (or the relevant minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect data from children under that age. Discord's own Terms of Service require users to meet Discord's minimum age requirement.
Your choices
Server administrators can remove the Bot from a server at any time, which stops all message processing in that server.
Users can avoid interacting with the Bot by simply not @mentioning it.
[If you implement an allowlist/blocklist, mention it here, e.g.: "Users can request to be excluded from Bot responses by contacting [email]."]
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above. [Add notification method if relevant, e.g. posting in your server.]
